A Setup For a Gaining Understanding- thanks Grey's

In the  episode, "She's Killing Me."  via Grey's Anatomy there is a B storyline that demonstrates so much of the impact of the approach to design thinking.  The clip below hopefully will show you what I mean.  In terms of empathy and as close to real understanding as a tv show setup can get, Grey's doctors try to recreate what its like to operate in the field of war torn Syria... Gaining real understanding is hard especially when you are in a sterile environment. Yet, I believe it is possible to set up moments for designers to gain understanding for users when as times you can't physically be with your users and/or immerse yourself in their environment.   I have also included two links that might give a little more insight into analogous empathy (an area I readily admit I am a little out of my depth yet very much willing to keep learning and experiencing). After a morning twitter conversation with @drleeanneG  (which I hope to post shortly) what I thought this clip was demonstrating was analogous empathy in fact might be something else....  Still connected to empathy + design thinking but maybe not so much AE.  Again, a work in progress (me)  but so thankful to be open to different view points and insights.
